Washington County’s Boards, Authorities & Commission

Washington County’s Boards, Authorities & Commissions are intended to give citizens a voice in their government and provide a means of influencing decisions that shape the quality of life for the residents of our community. Advisory bodies play a very important role in county government. Participation as an appointed member of Boards, Authorities & Commissions is one of the most effective steps citizens can take in becoming an active voice in their government.

If you are interested in serving on a county board, authority, commission, or committee, contact your Supervisor. Please be prepared to provide a current résumé. Please note that certain members of must file financial disclosure statements upon appointment, and annually thereafter.

Members must follow the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (VFOIA). This act ensures that the people of the Commonwealth have ready access to public records in the custody of a public body or its officers and employees and free entry to meetings of bodies wherein the business of the people is being conducted. The Virginia Freedom of Information Advisory Council is a state agency with expertise to help resolve disputes over VFOIA issues and provide guidance regarding VFOIA.
