Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney

The Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Washington County is seeking a Full-Time Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney to represent the Commonwealth of Virginia in criminal matters pending before the Washington County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, the Washington County General District Court, and the Washington County Circuit Court. This is an at-will position which serves at the pleasure of the Commonwealth’s Attorney.

With minimal supervision: Effectively prosecute complex criminal cases, and manage a substantial caseload, including necessary research, witness interview, negotiations with opposing counsel, preparation of jury instructions, and presentation of cases at trial.

Use tact and discretion in order to establish effective relationships with other judicial agencies, victims, witnesses, and law enforcement officials, adequately documenting in writing all actions and providing sufficient justification to support recommendations.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Commonwealth’s Attorney.

Requirements:

  • Licensed to practice law in Virginia
  • Active member in good standing of the Virginia State Bar
  • Criminal law experience preferred, but not necessary
  • Must pass a criminal background check
