Washington County announces new Emergency Notification System

Today, on the fifth anniversary of the devastating tornadoes of 2011, Washington County, Virginia Department
of Emergency Management unveils a new notification system. This system enables public safety agencies to
communicate with their residents in real-time using Facebook, Twitter and You Tube in addition to voice, email and
text messaging. Increasing the information shared with residents improves public safety and community relations.
In order to have a well thought, thorough emergency preparedness effort, the ability to communicate quickly
and effectively is vital. This system allows Washington County, Virginia to reach out to citizens and visitors during
emergencies using voice, email, texting and social media at a moment’s notice.
