WASHINGTON COUNTY, VA PUBLIC HEARINGS FOR 11/09/21

UPDATE FINANCIAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR DISCOUNTED TAX RATES FOR QUALIFYING ELDERLY AND HANDICAPPED PERSONS & REVISE TRANSIENT OCCUPANCY TAX REPORTING AND COLLECTION REQUIREMENTS WHEN ACCOMMODATIONS ARE BOOKED THROUGH AN INTERMEDIARY

Public hearings will be held on the following proposed ordinances by the Board of Supervisors of Washington County, Virginia, on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at 6:30 p.m. or as soon thereafter as may be heard in the Board of Supervisors Auditorium at the County Government Center, Suite A; 1 Government Center Place; Abingdon, Virginia 24210.

  1. An Ordinance to Amend Appendix C of the Code of the County of Washington, Virginia, To Update Financial Eligibility Criteria for Discounted Tax Rates for Qualifying Elderly and Handicapped Persons. Adoption of the ordinance would amend maximum income limits for qualification of elderly and disabled persons residing in Washington County, Virginia, for partial exemption from taxation of real estate and manufactured homes.
  2.  An Ordinance to Amend Chapter 58, Article VII, Sections 58-251 through 58-259 of the Code of the County of Washington, Virginia, to Revise Transient Occupancy Tax Reporting and Collection Requirements when Accommodations are Booked through an Intermediary. Adoption of the ordinance would conform local ordinance to state law, which was recently revised to provide for collection of the tax from intermediary businesses that arrange and collect payment for short-term lodging rentals.

In addition to the public hearing, citizens may submit comments by U.S. mail; by email (https://www.washcova.com/contact-us/); by voicemail at 276-525-1300, or by placing written comments in the drop-box outside the second-floor entry to the Government Center. Comments should be directed to attention of the County Attorney, and all comments received before 6 p.m. the day of the public hearing will be provided to the Board.
