The Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors of Washington County, Virginia, will conduct public hearings regarding adoption of a proposed Comprehensive Plan (2015), as follows. The public hearings will be held in the Board of Supervisors Auditorium at the County Administration Offices located at 1 Government Center Place in Abingdon, Virginia. The Commission hearing will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2015, or as soon thereafter as may be heard, after which the Commission may approve, amend and approve, or disapprove the Plan and resolve to recommend the Plan or part of the Plan to the Board. The Board hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, or as soon thereafter as may be heard, after which the Board may approve and adopt, amend and adopt, or disapprove the proposed Plan. If adopted by the Board, the adopted Plan would replace the current Comprehensive Plan (2003, as amended).
Virginia Code section 15.2-2223 requires the County to have a Comprehensive Plan. The Plan is general in nature and represents a broad statement of goals and strategies to guide governmental decisions related to future land use and physical development of land within the County.
A copy of the full text of the proposed Plan is on file and available for public inspection in the office of the Washington County Administrator and, also, on the County’s website at www.washcova.com (links: Government, Board of Supervisors, Public Hearings).
