County offices and solid waste transfer station's holiday schedule:

County Admin Offices will be closed on Monday, Dec 24 2012 and remain closed until Thursday, Dec 27 2012 for Christmas Holiday.

Solid waste stations and manned solid waste stations will be closed on Monday, Dec 24 and remain closed until Wednesday, Dec 26, 2012 for Christmas Holiday.

The convenience stations will be open on Wed, Dec 26, 2012 and Wednesday, Jan 2, 2013 for the holidays only.

Oak Park Dedication

ABINGDON, VA:   Today, the Washington County Board of Supervisors and Industrial Development Authority dedicated Oak Park: Center for Business and Industry - Phase III and IV, announced a new business for Oak Park, and acknowledged over $11 million dollars in grant funds provided by the Virginia Tobacco Commission.  These funds have been used to help create over 327 additional acres of industrial land, grade 150 acres of shovel ready pads, construct a new access road off US Rt. 11, and add 500,000 gallons per day of reserved sewer capacity for Oak Park

Government Center Building Dedication Ceremony

In 1784, the Virginia General Assembly resolved to honor George Washington with a statue as “a monument of affection and gratitude.” ThomasJefferson recommended famed French sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon,who agreed to the commission and began his work in 1785. After visitingwith Washington at Mount Vernon in October to make measurements anda life mask, Houdon completed the statue in 1792. It was erected in theVirginia State Capitol’s Rotunda in 1796 and still stands there today.
