WASHINGTON COUNTY HIRES NEW COUNTY ADMINISTATOR
Jason Berry has been selected to lead Washington County forward

ABINGDON, VA:  Washington County Virginia’s Board of Supervisors is pleased to announce today that Jason Berry has been selected as the new County Administrator effective September 1, 2013. Washington County has been in search of a candidate for the County Administrator’s position since it was vacated in August of 2012.   Nadine Culberson agreed to become County Administrator until the position was permanently filled.

Jason Berry was born in Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1994, a graduate of East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a Master of Public Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2000.

Before returning to Abingdon in 2006, Jason spent six years working for the Department of Defense.  He worked four years in the Pentagon for the Department of the Army in the Army Budget Office.  There he analyzed Army finances and developed budgets that became part of the annual President’s Budget. Jason spent two years as the Deputy Director of Finance in the White House Military Office.  There his office financed support activities for organizations like the White House Medical Unit, Air Force One, Marine One, Camp David and other Presidential support groups. During his last assignment, he routinely visited Capitol Hill meeting with Congressional staffers and Members of Congress working through Appropriation language and budget briefs.    Currently, Jason is the Executive Director of the Virginia Highlands Small Business Incubator, Inc. located in Abingdon.  Since becoming the director in 2006, he has assisted dozens of companies directly with their business development. In 2008 Jason was elected as a member of the Abingdon Town Council and re-elected to a second term in 2012. Throughout his professional career, Jason has worked with elected and appointed officials from the Federal, State and Local governments.

“I am very excited and proud to have a local individual lead Washington County forward,” says Dulcie Mumpower, Chair of the Washington County Board of Supervisors. “Jason is a very talented and intelligent young man who is full of energy, excitement and new ideas about the future of Washington County. I know the Board has made an excellent decision in their selection of our new County Administrator.”
