ABINGDON, VA: The Washington County Board of Supervisors announced today the release of the ‘Washington County Annual Progress Report FY 2010 – 11’. This report represents the actions, activities and accomplishments of all of Washington County’s Departments, Agencies, Constitutional Officers and regional organizations. Approximately 30 departments and agencies deliver services and work hard to meet the day-to-day needs of more than 53,000 Washington County residents.

“The Board of Supervisors has set a high priority for making local government more transparent to the citizens,” said Mrs. Dulcie Mumpower, Chairman of the Washington County Board of Supervisors. “We have much to be proud of in this county and many exciting things happening. We want to make sure our citizens are aware of what is going on.”
This is the second Annual Progress Report produced by the County and the first to be made available to the citizens “on-line” at www.washcova.com/government/washington-county-news/245-annual-report-2010-2011 Hard copies will be distributed to all Washington County library branches and individual town halls for the Towns of Abingdon, Damascus, and Glade Spring.
“During FY 2010-11, Washington County was able to implement several capital projects that will increased efficiencies of government operations and improve the quality of life and services to our citizens,” says Mark Reeter, County Administrator. “I commend the team of county employees, elected and appointed officials, county agencies and community volunteers who work every day to create positive change and provide a high level of customer service to the citizens of Washington County.”
Capital projects featured in this report include: additions to seven County schools; a new ball park for the Town of Damascus; enhanced and consolidated emergency services and Sheriff’s Department operations within a new public safety building; a new branch library facility for the Town of Glade Spring; the completion of Phase III at Oak Park: Center for Business & Industry creating over 150 acres of graded industrial sites; a nationally-recognized, award-winning six county regional initiative to share critical electronic mapping and save lives through reduced response times by public safety providers; a new centralized government office facility and a first-of-its-kind in Virginia regional artisan center, Heartwood, that will bring tourists to our county from all over the world.
