The Washington County Board of Supervisors periodically amends the 2002 Code of the County of Washington, Virgina (the County Code) through the adoption of new ordinances and/or by revising existing County Code provisions. Proposed ordinances to be considered by the Board of Supervisors will be made available here on or immediately after the date of the first required newspaper advertisement of a proposed amendment to the County Code. Under Virgina law, the full text of a proposed ordinance shall be made available for public review prior to the date of public hearing of the proposed ordinance before the Board of Supervisors. The text of the proposed ordinance may be revised prior to public hearing before the Board of Supervisors, and the proposed ordinance may also be further revised after the public hearing but prior to adoption by the Board of Supervisors. Revisions to proposed ordinances prior to the date of the first public hearing will not be made available here. In the case of proposed ordinances involving the County Zoning Ordinance (Chapter 66 of the County Code), a public hearing before the Washington County Planning Commission shall be conducted prior to the public hearing before the Board of Supervisors. Such public hearings may also be conducted concurrently during a joint meeting of the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors.
